Paleo: Is it for me?

So remember a few months ago when I met Kara?
She introduced me to CrossFit. And now that I'm addicted and loving working out at Elevated CrossFit,
I decided I needed to look into this whole Paleo thing that she mentioned.

We met up after Christmas for lunch at Pizza Factory and I asked a ton of questions about Paleo.
So she recommended I read Robb Wolf's book, The Paleo Solution.

lucky for me, during January, Barnes and Noble had all their health & fitness books on sale.
Thank you New Years Resolution-ers. ;)

I started reading it when we went on vacation to Cali.

I'm only half way through the book right now,
but I have to admit, it's pretty convincing.
and I definitely want to try it.
"Lose Weight. Get Fit. Reverse Disease."
I suppose it sounds too good to be true, but a lot of it makes sense to me.
And a lot of CrossFitters swear by the Paleo lifestyle.
Tyson recommends it and thinks it could totally work for me.

And Kara has a whole board on Pinterest called P is for Paleo with lots of yummy recipes that look delicious. No boring, yucky rabbit food on this board.

What have I got to lose?

Anyone else do Paleo?
Tried it? Loved it? Hated it?

Give me the details, people. I wanna know what you think!

  1. I've tried to stick to it off and on since last November; my CrossFit trainers started a challenge in January that runs through April 14th. We get points for Paleo days, points for showing up to the gym and points for inches lost, weight lost, etc. He with the most points at the end wins. I did great the first two weeks and have been struggling the last two weeks. It's mostly mental for me but convenience plays a role, too. I am a wife and a mom; my hubby and my girls don't necessarily want to give up whole grains nor the occasional sweet treat. That's the hardest part for me, too. We eat decently to begin with- lean proteins, fresh veggies, whole grains, etc. Giving up the whole grains is the hard part for me.

  2. Tried it and lasted one meal: breakfast. The biggest problem is that I'm not a huge fan of meat. I've tried to re-introduce it into my diet after being veg for 5+ years and it's really hard for me to eat. If you love your meat though, it shouldn't be too bad. I just really love my carbs and could never give up my oats or Ezekiel bread :)

  3. I am currently doing a Way of Life Challenge at my CrossFit gym and I am on Day 6. The Paleo diet has definitely been a change from my previous diet. I have been slowing going vegetarian so to eat alot of meat is kinda hard for me. I do miss my morning oatmeal and occasional sandwhich. Giving up sweets/pop hasn't been too hard but I do find myself wishing for some chocolate every now and then. I don't know if I will stick to a strict Paleo diet after this challenge is over but I will for sure decrease all the carbs I was eating before. I also don't want to tell myself that I can "NEVER have any _______ type of food." Good Luck with whatever you decide.

  4. I just tried my first Crossfit class yesterday. Boy am I sore today! Not sure if I am hooked yet. Really want to give their weight training class a try.

Never tried to Paleo, but am following the Abs Diet for Women superfood nutrition guide.

  5. I've been considering Paleo for a few months now. I seem to be in this place that I feel the need for something more/better diet wise. Maybe it's Paleo? Not sure but I do know a change is imminent.

Off to check out the P is for Paleo board.

  6. I changed my diet over a year ago and dropped major poundage, it was kind of Paleo but I didn't realize it at the time. I've stuck with it because it is very sustainable, I feel amazing, and know that what I'm putting in my body is what it needs. I really focused on amping up my veggie intake, along with lean protein (chicken, eggs, lowfat cottage cheese occasionally), and getting 3-4 fruit servings per day. The only 'processed' thing I eat is Genesis 1:29 bread with breakfast (toast and eggs), I typically have two smaller lunches, both mainly just veggie bowls, one with a protein of some sort, and my dinner is about 80% veggies, 20% protein and fit in fruit for snacks.

I don't view it as a 'diet' or a way I 'have to eat.' It's just what I eat, I love it, and it keeps me healthy. Plus finding delicious recipes and trying out my own is always fun!
